A toddler picture book by Eseld Carne COMING
Kensa bakes the biggest pasty Polperran has ever seen. Gwylan wants it. A campaign of swoops, disguises and cunning — but Gwylan had a plan…
In Greedy Gwylan and the Enormous Pasty, Kensa has baked the biggest pasty Polperran has ever seen, ready for the village fete. Unfortunately, Gwylan has noticed it too. With a bold swoop here, a tiny flag disguise there, and the delicious refrain “But Gwylan had a plan…”, Eseld Carne turns a simple temptation into a sunny, giggle-filled chase around one very important pasty.
Little listeners will relish knowing what Gwylan wants long before any grown-up voice gets to the next page. The repeated line invites joining in, while the near-misses and cheeky scheming keep the humour broad, visual and safe for ages two to four. There is just enough comic suspense to make laps feel exciting, but the peril stays firmly in picture-book territory: warm, silly, and built for “again!” at bedtime.
As part of the Little Polperran toddler picture books, this story gives the youngest readers their own doorway into Little Chough Press’s shared Cornish village. Polperran’s fete, Kensa’s baking and Gwylan’s appetite offer early, friendly threads that children may recognise as they grow into the older series. For now, it is a robustly comic seaside tale, rooted in village life and perfect for small hands.
